How We Collaborate

A Partnership Centered on the Patient

A Collaborative Approach to Cancer Care

Referring veterinarians know their patients, families, and medical histories better than anyone. At PCC, we see our role as an extension of that relationship, providing focused oncology expertise while keeping you informed and involved throughout your patient's care.

Our goal is to make the referral process straightforward, support thoughtful decision-making, and ensure families experience a connected plan from their primary veterinarian through specialty oncology care.

What to Expect When You Refer

We work to make every referral feel seamless for your team, your client, and the patient you know so well. Before the consultation, we review the available records, diagnostic findings, imaging, cytology, and pathology so our oncologist can begin with a well-informed understanding of the case.

During the visit, our board-certified veterinary oncologist will examine the patient, help the family understand the diagnosis and available options, and develop a plan that reflects the medical findings, the patient's quality of life, and the family's priorities.

A complete diagnostic workup is not required before referral. We can help identify which additional tests may meaningfully shape the plan and avoid those unlikely to change the recommendations.

Communication You Can Count On

Your relationship with the patient and family remains an important part of their care. We are committed to keeping your team informed with consultation findings, diagnostic results, treatment recommendations, medication updates, and follow-up plans.

When appropriate, laboratory monitoring, medications, or supportive care may be coordinated through your hospital. We clearly define responsibilities so your team, our oncology team, and the family understand the plan and know where to turn with questions.

When surgery, radiation therapy, or another outside service is recommended, we help coordinate the appropriate referral while remaining involved in the broader oncology plan.
