Surgery Coordination

Coordinated Care Beyond Our Center

Surgery can play an important role in diagnosing or treating certain cancers. Although Pet Cancer Center does not perform surgical procedures, our oncology team can help determine when surgery may be appropriate and coordinate care with a trusted veterinary surgeon.

We remain involved throughout the process so that surgical recommendations, pathology findings, and any additional oncology treatment can be considered as part of one connected plan.

When Might Surgery Be Recommended?

Surgery may be considered to:

  • Remove a tumor or abnormal area
  • Obtain tissue for a definitive diagnosis
  • Reduce the amount of cancer present
  • Relieve pain, obstruction, or another cancer-related symptom
  • Support a treatment plan that may also include chemotherapy or other therapies

Whether surgery is appropriate depends on the type and location of the cancer, its expected behavior, your pet's overall health, and the goals of treatment.

Coordinating Care with a Veterinary Surgeon

When surgery is recommended, we can help connect you with an appropriate veterinary surgical specialist and provide the relevant medical records, imaging, and treatment context.

After the procedure, we will review the surgical and pathology findings with you and explain whether additional treatment or monitoring may be beneficial. Our goal is to help ensure that every provider involved understands the larger plan and that you know what comes next.
