Chemotherapy

Treatment with Quality of Life in Mind

Chemotherapy can be an important part of treating many types of cancer in pets. At Pet Cancer Center, every treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient, with careful consideration for their diagnosis, overall health, comfort, and the priorities of their family.

Our goal is not simply to treat the cancer. It is to help preserve the quality of the time you share while providing thoughtful, medically appropriate options for the path ahead.

What Is Veterinary Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy uses medications to destroy cancer cells, slow their growth, or help control the progression of disease. It may be recommended as a primary treatment or used alongside other forms of care, depending on your pet’s diagnosis and individual needs.

Veterinary chemotherapy is generally approached differently than chemotherapy in human medicine. Treatment plans are designed with comfort and quality of life at the center, and our team will help you understand the expected benefits, possible side effects, and practical considerations before treatment begins.

Chemotherapy Options at Pet Cancer Center

Depending on your pet’s diagnosis and treatment plan, chemotherapy may include:

  • Intravenous chemotherapy administered at our oncology center
  • Oral chemotherapy medications given at home or in the hospital
  • Other injectable cancer treatments
  • Ongoing monitoring throughout the treatment protocol

Your pet’s oncologist will recommend a treatment approach based on the type of cancer, the goals of therapy, and how your pet responds over time.

What to Expect During Treatment

Before chemotherapy begins, we will review your pet’s diagnosis, discuss the recommended protocol, and explain what treatment may look like from one visit to the next. Bloodwork or other testing may be performed before treatment to help ensure it is appropriate to proceed.

During each visit, our team will monitor your pet closely and make adjustments when needed. We will also talk with you about what to watch for at home and remain available to help address questions or concerns throughout treatment.
