Radiation Therapy Referral/Coordination
Connecting Your Pet with Specialized Radiation Care
Radiation therapy can be an important treatment option for certain cancers, particularly when a tumor cannot be fully removed, surgery is not appropriate, or relief from pain and other symptoms is a priority. Although Pet Cancer Center does not provide radiation therapy on-site, our oncology team can help determine when it may be worth considering and coordinate referral to an appropriate radiation oncology center.
We stay involved so the referral, treatment recommendations, and follow-up plan remain connected to your pet's broader oncology care.
When Might Radiation Therapy Be Considered?
Radiation therapy may be recommended to:
- Target a localized tumor
- Treat cancer that cannot be fully removed surgically
- Help manage pain, bleeding, or other symptoms
- Support treatment before or after another therapy
- Provide local disease control when other options are limited
The role of radiation depends on the cancer type, location, expected behavior, your pet's overall health, and the goals of treatment.

Coordinating the Referral and Follow-Up
When radiation therapy is being considered, we can help connect you with a veterinary radiation oncologist and share the medical records, imaging, pathology, and treatment history needed for evaluation.
After the consultation or treatment, we will help you understand the recommendations and how radiation may fit with chemotherapy, monitoring, or other supportive care. Our goal is to keep communication clear and help you feel supported throughout the process.
